For those of you who are in ministry it would be interesting to hear what you think about this. Last night we had our senior Wednesday where the seniors (who we chose to) got up and gave a short encouragement/challenge to the rest of the group. The kids who got up had some really good stuff to say and i was rather impressed with some of the realizations they have come to at their ages. The problem i had was that there was also a rather large contingent of people speaking amongst themselves at the same time. these kids in our group talk, whisper, comment amongst themselves the entire service, every service. Its was driving me crazy. I want to love on these kids and but they have no respect, i want to help them grow in their faith but how the heck are they gonna hear it if they don't shut up? The real interesting or difficult part comes in the fact that we had about 15 kids stand up and share how God has significantly moved in their lives over the course of their four years in the group, they are the ones who sit quietly, they are the ones who pay attention and allow God to teach them in the service and through worship. they actually engage in the service and grow.
So we have those two groups. 1, the kids who we see to care and who have evidence of growth, and 2, the kids who seem to not care and we are striving to see a glimpse of growth what-so-ever. So whats the story? is the church supposed to be broken into groups like this? are we as leaders called to call out those who don't pay attention? I thought we were but there is a part of me, as well as the rest of the students staff that feels like we need to wait on God to change these Kids and help them in any way we can until God desires to really call them to Him. It gets confusing to me, whats my role and what I need to wait for my Faithful God to do. Cause i know He will call His children to Him, in His time not mine.
