Is Your Church Losing Its Voice? (How to Engage Your Congregation in Worship)

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN LEADING WORSHIP AND LOOKED OUT AND SAW THIS?

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

Blank stares, folded arms, and lack of engagement can be discouraging.

I recently spoke on this very topic at the Worship Innovators Conference in Chicago and met many worship leaders who are facing this challenge in their churches every Sunday.

I want to share a few keys that were in my workshop: "How To Engage Your Church in Worship". I hope they help you connect with the congregation as well as help you connect them to God's presence.

TEACHING DURING WORSHIP MOMENTS

Share a story, read a scripture, give insight into what worship is, why we worship, and how we express worship. Incorporate a sermon series or message on worship.

MODELING WORSHIP FROM THE PLATFORM

Lead by example. Demonstrate the kind of engagement you want to see in the congregation. Authentic and vibrant expression from the platform is contagious.

CHOOSING APPROPRIATE SONGS & KEYS

Be intentional when your congregation is multi-generational. Incorporate hymns or older songs with modern songs. Choose keys that are singable, but not too low that they lack energy.

CONNECTING WITH THE CONGREGATION

Get out of the green room and connect with the people you are leading. It builds trust with them. Post a playlist of songs in rotation for the church to listen to during the week.

USING TECHNOLOGY WITH DISCERNMENT AND AWARENESS

Ensure lyrics are clear, legible, and displayed on time so people can sing. Pay attention to sound levels that may be too low or too high. Use lighting creatively without being overly distracting.

HELPING THEM GROW IN THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

Disciple the people in your congregation as a church, helping them to live out their faith daily. As their relationship with God grows, their expression in worship will grow.

Let's help our people find their voice in worship and see what God does!!! As always, I encourage you to lead boldly and worship God passionately.

"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs."Psalm 100:1-2
