Keys To Growth in Ministry

It's essential that we remain open to learning and improving in our craft. Remember, our journey should be one of continuous growth and transformation.
Why Teachability Matters
Being teachable means understanding that no matter how much we know, there’s always room to grow. It’s about keeping our hearts open to God’s leading and being willing to learn from others.
As musicians and vocalists, we have to resist the thought that we've "arrived" or that we have hit a plateau in our ability.
Many of you have heard me share in workshops that although I've been in ministry for over 30 years and train others regularly, I still take courses, hire coaches, and attend seminars to continually expand my knowledge.
The Value of Feedback
Feedback is another powerful tool to help mature as worship leaders and musicians. It’s a gift that fuels our growth and sharpens our ministry.
Here are some key points to remember when receiving feedback:
😊 Constructive Growth: Feedback is meant to help us improve our musical skills, platform presence, and spiritual preparation. It’s about building us up in our service to God and others, because we all have blind spots.
💡Not Personal: Keep in mind, feedback is about enhancing the ministry and our journey as a musician—it’s not a reflection on you as a person.
🙏 Grace and Humility: Embrace feedback with grace and humility, using it as a catalyst for further growth in your calling.
💨 Filtering Feedback: Not all feedback may be coming from a healthy place—it might not always be constructive, or you may have experienced hurtful criticism in the past. Invite the Holy Spirit to help you filter it—keep what's helpful, and release the rest.
I encourage you to actively seek feedback from trusted people and view every suggestion as an opportunity to serve and lead more effectively. Ask your Worship Pastor/Director, your Tech/Media team, your Senior Pastor, or a seasoned musician for honest observations.
Sign up for that class, attend that conference, watch videos of yourself, request feedback, or hire that coach—you won’t regret investing in yourself!
👟 What’s one step you can take right now towards growing your leadership or musicianship? Reply back and let me know so I can cheer you on!
Let’s continue to build a culture where growth, learning, and honest conversation lead us to new heights in ministry.
