Leading Worship in a Heavy Week

This week has been another reminder of how fragile life feels in our world.💔 Tragedy and violence have filled the headlines. Anniversaries of national sorrow can also stir old wounds. It’s heavy.
I've felt it, and I know you've felt it. And our people will walk into church this weekend carrying that weight also.
But here’s the tension: worship doesn’t ignore the pain. It gives us language to bring it before the Lord. Worship invites the presence of the Almighty God into the situation. When the world feels unstable, worship becomes an anchor ⚓, not an escape.
So how do you lead this weekend if you're on the worship team schedule?
Lead with honesty. Don’t pretend everything is normal. Your congregation needs a worship team that will be sensitive and aware of the moment and invite God’s presence into it.
Point people to Jesus. They don’t need our energy as much as they need His presence. Help lift their eyes to the One where our help comes from.
Lead, sing, and play with courage, tenderness, and faith all at once. Even if you aren't the one leading the service, you can still intercede and pray peace over the people.
Share an encouraging scripture, and sing songs that declare faith, victory, and/or His presence.
Make room for quiet, reflective moments as well as joyful anthems when appropriate.
And most importantly, just be led in what to sing (if you are choosing songs) and how to sing and play with a grace and empowerment for the room.
Let’s be teams who don’t run from the weight, but carry it with our people into the presence of God. ✝️ That’s what worship leading looks like when the world is shaking.
Praying for you as you step onto the platform this weekend or wherever you find yourself if you're not serving.
