Ready to step into your next season of growth?🌟 Maybe you're not currently in a formal leadership role in ministry, but your heart is eager to grow into one. Or perhaps you're already leading but know there are areas where you'd like to improve.
Either way, as worship leaders and aspiring leaders, our journey never stops. We should always keep growing because we keep leading others deeper into God's presence.
Today, I want to quickly unpack four vital areas where every worship leader can intentionally grow: (I'll be doing an in-depth video on this soon)
1. Spiritually
Nothing matters more than your personal relationship with God. The OVERFLOW from that relationship is what fuels and sustains ministry. Protect your time with the Lord and pursue communion with Him, listening to His voice and reading the Word (Psalm 1:2-3).
Practice healthy spiritual habits, grow in the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), and regularly fill yourself up by reading inspiring books or listening to encouraging messages.
2. Musically
Sharpen your skills! Be a student of your craft and stay curious. Dive into basic music theory, speak "band language," and consistently seek to learn more (even beyond what is required of you). Have you always wanted to learn another instrument?
I promise you... you'll be glad you did when the day comes and you need to pull that "tool" out and use it!
Take an online course, watch tutorial videos, or consider investing in coaching/mentoring.
Bonus tip: Get familiar with technical aspects like lighting, sound, and lyrics software... especially if you oversee these areas.
3. Administratively
Now DON'T SKIP over this one! LOL! Being organized and prepared is part of your ministry! Clarify expectations, set up clear communication, and establish effective systems and processes.
It's great if you have a vision for growth and development, but vision without processes is like a fancy car without wheels. It might look good, but it ain't going anywhere!!
Remember, the word "administer" literally includes the word "minister": Administration is an act of service and ministry to the people God's entrusted to you. It shows that you have a heart for excellence when you make administration a priority.
4. Pastorally
Leadership is relational. You don't have to have the title of "pastor" to be intentional and to care deeply about the people you lead. Prioritize genuine connection and handle conflict with grace.
Remember, shepherding your team and congregation doesn't have to be intimidating. Focus on loving people more than their role or position, and refuse to let people-pleasing rule your heart.
