When The Platform Feels Empty

Let's be honest. There are seasons where the platform just feels… empty. Not because God's presence isn't in the room. But because you feel lost.
You’re still singing or playing, still smiling, still serving, but something inside feels quiet.
You love God. You’re grateful to lead. But the passion, the connection, that fire that used to make your heart come alive... it’s not hitting the same.
Guess what? You're NORMAL!
Maybe you’re carrying the weight of a team that’s stretched thin. Maybe you’re pouring out but no one’s pouring back in. Or maybe you’ve just been running on spiritual autopilot for too long.
Here’s what I’ve learned after years of leading through those seasons (many times!):
The emptiness is an invitation...
To return to the secret place.
To remember why you said "yes" in the first place.
To stop performing and start communing and abiding again.
The same God who fills the room with His presence can also fill the quiet spaces of your heart.
Here are a few ways to refocus and refresh:
1. Take a moment this week to rest, breathe, and ask: “Lord, where have I been leading from emptiness instead of overflow?” Create space in your schedule to just "BE" and not "DO" and let the the Lord reveal areas that need to be surrendered.
2. Before you pick up a mic or instrument, pick up your Bible. Read the Word of God and prepare your heart before you prepare songs. If you don't know where to start, start with the Psalms. Scripture can also remind you of "why we worship".
3. Reignite your relationship with God. Have you been relating to God as your "Boss" more than your Abba Father? He called us to be sons and daughters before servants. Spend some time just sitting in His presence and letting Him speak identity over you.
4. Ask for Help. Sometimes what feels “empty” is actually overcapacity. If you’re carrying too much (musically, emotionally, spiritually), talk to your pastor or a mentor. Let someone pray with you, not just for you.
5. Reconnect with real people. Grab coffee with a teammate and talk about life, not church logistics. Laugh, cry, pray together. Community refills you.
If this resonated with you, I’d love for you to join me and other worship leaders inside The Worship Life Collective: a free community where we grow, connect, and get re-filled together.
Hope to see you there!
